Doctors at The Foot Institute – Red Deer focus on the medical and surgical therapy of the ankle and foot. Foot Institute Doctors devote approximately ten years in learning, the first four years in undergraduate studies to achieve a Bachelors Degree, and the following four years in Medical School to acquire a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to conventional medical school and in fact various podiatry programs are located inside these institutions. Upon achieving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for an additional 1 to 3 years.
At the completion of the internship or residency, our Foot doctors have received wide-ranging medical instruction with an importance on problems pertaining to the feet and ankles. Our Doctors are skilled to manage concerns ranging from basic problems such as fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are more perplexing including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have comprehensive surgical education which give them the skill needed to perform surgery on those problems that are best remedied through surgical treatment.
Our Doctors also have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet withstand as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Realizing biomechanics and gait abnormalities allows a Podiatric doctor to design shoes and orthotics which can deliver pain relief and defend against numerous complications which the feet commonly encounter.
