Red Deer Podiatrist & Foot Clinic

Physicians here at The Foot Institute – Red Deer specialize in the medical and surgical therapy of the ankle and foot. Our podiatrists spend an average of 10 years in education, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the next 4 years in Medical School to acquire a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to standard medical school and a number of podiatry training programs are located inside these schools. After receiving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute perform a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for an additional one to three years.

Upon the fulfillment of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatrists have gained extensive healthcare training with a focus on problems pertaining to the feet and ankles. Our Doctors are instructed to address conditions varying from familiar problems for instance fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are a lot more complicated for example, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have substantial surgical education which give them the expertise essential to execute surgical treatment on those issues that are best handled through surgical intervention.

Doctors at the Foot Institute additionally have a comprehensive practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet undergo as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Understanding biomechanics and gait abnormalities empowers a Podiatric doctor to design shoes and orthotics that can give pain relief and minimize the risk of many complications which the feet regularly encounter.
