Podiatrists at The Foot Institute – Red Deer concentrate on the medical and surgical treatment of the ankle and foot. Our podiatrists spend an average of a decade in education, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to get a Bachelors Degree, and the next four years in Medical School to get a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to regular medical school and in fact many podiatry training programs are contained within these academic institutions. Upon receiving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 to 3 years.
At the fulfillment of the internship or residency, our Podiatric physicians have obtained thorough health care instruction with a main focus on problems regarding the feet and ankles. Our Doctors are qualified to treat issues extending from usual ailments such as ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are more puzzling including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have thorough surgical instruction which provide them the skill necessary to conduct surgery on those problems that are ideally treated through surgical intervention.
Our Doctors also have a thorough expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs withstand as we walk, run or perform other activities. Recognizing biomechanics and gait problems permits a Foot doctor to design footwear and orthotics which can offer pain relief and reduce the chances of many issues which the feet routinely encounter.
