Red Deer Podiatrist & Foot Clinic

Doctors here at The Foot Institute – Red Deer specialise in the surgical and medical treatment of the foot and ankle. They devote approximately 10 years in higher education, the first four years in undergrad studies to get a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to attain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to usual medical school and a number of podiatry training programs are located within these academic institutions. After acquiring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute perform a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 to 3 years.

At the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatric physicians have received substantial medical instruction with an emphasis on concerns regarding the ankles and feet. Foot Institute Doctors are trained to treat problems stretching from usual problems like ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are more challenging for example clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have significant surgical training which provide them the skill vital to perform surgical treatment on those complications that are ideally handled through surgical intervention.

Foot Institute Doctors also have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet undergo as we walk, run or perform other activities. Knowing biomechanics and gait abnormalities facilitates a Podiatrist to design shoes and orthotics that can deliver pain relief and help prevent many troubles which the feet commonly encounter.
