Doctors at The Foot Institute – Red Deer specialise in the surgical and medical therapy of the ankle and foot. Our podiatrists put in around 10 years in higher education, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to secure a Bachelors Degree, and the following 4 years in Medical School to attain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to traditional medical school and actually several podiatry training programs are located inside these schools. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or residency for an additional 1 to 3 years.

At the fulfillment of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatrists have received comprehensive medical education with a main focus on difficulties pertaining to the ankles and feet. They are instructed to treat problems extending from familiar problems for example, fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are even more complex including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have significant surgical instruction which provide them the expertise necessary to perform surgical treatment on those problems that are ideally handled through surgical intervention.

Foot Institute Doctors also have a thorough expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet experience as we walk, run or perform other activities. Understanding biomechanics and gait irregularities makes it possible for a Podiatric doctor to design footwear and orthotics that can provide pain relief and protect against numerous complications which the feet commonly experience.
