Doctors here at The Foot Institute – Red Deer concentrate on the medical and surgical treatment of the foot and ankle. Foot Institute Doctors invest approximately 10 years in learning, the first four years in undergrad studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the following four years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to regular medical school and in fact several podiatry programs are located inside these schools. At the conclusion of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have received thorough health care instruction with an emphasis on concerns concerning the ankles and feet. Foot Institute Doctors are instructed to address complications ranging from normal ailments for example, ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are a lot more obscure like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have extensive surgical training which supply them the practical experience needed to carry out surgery on those problems that are ideally remedied through surgical treatment.
Foot Institute Doctors also have an extensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet submit to as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait abnormalities permits a Foot doctor to develop footwear and orthotics which can provide pain relief and help prevent a large number of issues which the feet regularly encounter.
