Dr.’s at The Foot Institute – Red Deer concentrate on the surgical and medical therapy of the foot and ankle. Our doctors invest an average of a decade in learning, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to receive a Bachelors Degree, and the following four years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to usual medical school and as a matter of fact many podiatry programs are located inside these schools. After procuring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute finish a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another one to three years.
At the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatric doctors have gained substantial health care education with an importance on conditions concerning the feet and ankles. Our Doctors are trained to treat complications extending from typical problems for instance, ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are more intricate such as clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have substantial surgical instruction which provide them the practical experience essential to carry out surgery on those issues that are best remedied through surgical treatment.
Our Doctors also have a thorough practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs go through as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Knowing biomechanics and gait deviations permits a Podiatrist to design shoes and orthotics that can give pain relief and reduce the chances of many issues which the feet commonly encounter.
