Medical doctors here at The Foot Institute – Red Deer concentrate on the medical and surgical treatment of the ankle and foot. Our podiatrists put in about 10 years in education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to achieve a Bachelors Degree, and the following four years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to typical medical school and actually numerous podiatry training programs are located within these schools. After securing a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute finish a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another one to three years.

At the finalization of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatrists have obtained extensive health care instruction with a stress on conditions regarding the ankles and feet. They are taught to care for concerns ranging from general disorders for example, fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are much more perplexing such as clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have considerable surgical education which provide them the practical experience crucial to execute surgery on those problems that are ideally treated through surgical intervention.

Our Doctors also have a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet undergo as we walk, run or carry out other tasks. Knowing biomechanics and gait abnormalities empowers a Podiatrist to create footwear and orthotics which can deliver pain relief and avoid countless troubles which the feet generally encounter.
