Physicians at The Foot Institute – Red Deer focus on the surgical and medical treatment of the foot and ankle. They spend around 10 years in education, the first four years in undergrad studies to get a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd four years in Medical School to receive a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles standard medical school and several podiatry programmes are contained within these academic institutions. After achieving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another 1 to 3 years.
At the conclusion of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have received extensive healthcare training with an attention to on difficulties regarding the ankles and feet. They are trained to treat conditions ranging from conventional disorders for instance, fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are even more sophisticated for example, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have extensive surgical education which give them the experience essential to perform surgery on those problems that are best handled through surgical intervention.
Foot Institute Doctors furthermore have a thorough expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet submit to as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Realizing biomechanics and gait abnormalities enables a Podiatric doctor to create shoes and orthotics that can bestow pain relief and reduce the chances of a large number of conditions which the feet commonly experience.
