Medical doctors at The Foot Institute – Red Deer concentrate on the medical and surgical therapy of the ankle and foot. Our podiatrists spend approximately ten years in learning, the first four years in undergraduate studies to get a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to get a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to conventional medical school and in fact several podiatry programmes are located inside these institutions. After procuring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for yet another one to three years.

At the completion of the internship or residency, our Doctors have obtained extensive healthcare education with a focus on difficulties regarding the ankles and feet. Foot Institute Doctors are trained to treat concerns varying from usual afflictions for instance, ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are much more sophisticated for example, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have extensive surgical instruction which give them the prior experience necessary to perform surgery on those concerns that are best remedied through surgical treatment.

Doctors at the Foot Institute furthermore have a comprehensive practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs submit to as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait irregularities makes it easy for a Foot doctor to develop shoes and orthotics which can give pain relief and prevent many troubles which the feet commonly experience.
