Doctors at The Foot Institute – Red Deer concentrate on the surgical and medical treatment of the foot and ankle. Our doctors spend about 10 years in higher education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to attain a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to secure a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles conventional medical school and quite a number podiatry programs are located within these academic institutions. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute finish a hospital "internship" or residency for yet another one to three years.
At the finalization of the internship or post degree residency, our Doctors have obtained considerable medical instruction with a focus on complications pertaining to the feet and ankles. Foot Institute Doctors are skilled to care for complications ranging from standard disorders for example, fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are even more sophisticated such as clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have comprehensive surgical instruction which give them the experience essential to conduct surgical treatment on those conditions that are best treated through surgical intervention.
Our Doctors also have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs undergo as we walk, run or perform other activities. Understanding biomechanics and gait deviations allows a Foot doctor to design shoes and orthotics that can provide pain relief and protect against numerous troubles which the feet commonly experience.
