Doctors here at The Foot Institute – Red Deer provide services for the surgical and medical treatment of the ankle and foot. They spend approximately 10 years in learning, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to achieve a Bachelors Degree, and the next four years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to typical medical school and in reality a number of podiatry programmes are contained within these schools. After securing a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute carry out a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for yet another one to three years.

At the fulfillment of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatrists have obtained significant health care education with an emphasis on difficulties concerning the feet and ankles. Our Doctors are instructed to address concerns extending from general conditions such as fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are more perplexing for example clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have extensive surgical education which provide them the skill essential to execute surgical treatment on those issues that are best managed through surgical intervention.

Foot Institute Doctors also have an extensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs receive as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Knowing biomechanics and gait peculiarities makes it easy for a Podiatrist to create shoes and orthotics which can offer pain relief and help prevent many troubles which the feet generally encounter.
