Medical doctors here at The Foot Institute – Red Deer provide services for the surgical and medical therapy of the ankle and foot. Our doctors spend an average of ten years in education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to have a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to general medical school and in point of fact quite a number podiatry programs are located inside these academic institutions. After procuring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for yet another one to three years.

At the conclusion of the internship or residency, our Doctors have acquired extensive medical instruction with an emphasis on concerns concerning the feet and ankles. They are studied to deal with conditions varying from basic problems like fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are much more sophisticated like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have considerable surgical education which provide them the expertise required to perform surgery on those issues that are ideally managed through surgical intervention.

Our Doctors additionally have an extensive expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs undergo as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Knowing biomechanics and gait irregularities facilitates a Foot doctor to design shoes and orthotics which can deliver pain relief and defend against numerous conditions which the feet typically encounter.
