Medical doctors here at The Foot Institute – Red Deer specialize in the medical and surgical therapy of the foot and ankle. Our doctors spend an average of a decade in education, the first four years in undergrad studies to achieve a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to secure a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to conventional medical school and in fact a number of podiatry programs are contained within these academic institutions. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another 1 to 3 years.
Upon the finalization of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have obtained encompassing health care instruction with an importance on concerns concerning the feet and ankles. They are trained to care for complications varying from familiar afflictions for example, ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are more intricate for instance, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have substantial surgical training which supply them the experience necessary to perform surgical treatment on those conditions that are best managed through surgical intervention.
Foot Institute Doctors also have a thorough expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs submit to as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait problems makes it easy for a Podiatrist to design shoes and orthotics which can give pain relief and prevent countless complications which the feet routinely encounter.
