Health professionals here at The Foot Institute – Red Deer specialize in the surgical and medical therapy of the foot and ankle. Our doctors invest an average of ten years in higher education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to receive a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to receive a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to standard medical school and several podiatry training programs are located within these schools. Upon acquiring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another one to three years.
Upon the finalization of the internship or residency, our Podiatric physicians have gained thorough healthcare training with a focus on concerns involving the ankles and feet. Foot Institute Doctors are skilled to handle complications varying from normal afflictions for instance ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are more puzzling for example clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have thorough surgical training which furnish them the experience needed to perform surgery on those complications that are ideally treated through surgical intervention.
Our Doctors also have an extensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet endure as we walk, run or perform other activities. Realizing biomechanics and gait irregularities makes it easy for a Foot doctor to design footwear and orthotics which can bestow pain relief and defend against countless troubles which the feet usually experience.
