Dr.’s at The Foot Institute – Red Deer provide services for the medical and surgical therapy of the ankle and foot. Our doctors devote about 10 years in higher education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to attain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to conventional medical school and several podiatry programmes lie within these institutions. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or residency for an additional 1 - 3 years.
At the fulfillment of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatric physicians have gained extensive medical instruction with an attention to on issues involving the feet and ankles. Foot Institute Doctors are skilled to care for problems stretching from usual problems for instance fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are much more perplexing such as clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have thorough surgical instruction which provide them the experience required to execute surgery on those troubles that are best managed through surgical treatment.
Our Doctors also have a thorough practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs withstand as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Knowing biomechanics and gait irregularities allows a Podiatrist to design shoes and orthotics which can give pain relief and protect against many complications which the feet frequently encounter.
