Health professionals here at The Foot Institute – Red Deer provide services for the medical and surgical treatment of the foot and ankle. Foot Institute Doctors spend an average of 10 years in learning, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to secure a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to acquire a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to usual medical school and in fact a number of podiatry programmes lie inside these schools. After acquiring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute carry out a hospital "internship" or residency for another one to three years.

Upon the fulfillment of the internship or residency, our Doctors have obtained extensive health care education with an attention to on problems concerning the feet and ankles. They are taught to treat problems varying from common conditions such as fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are far more puzzling like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have comprehensive surgical education which provide them the experience vital to perform surgical treatment on those complications that are ideally treated through surgical intervention.

Our Doctors likewise have a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs undergo as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait problems allows a Foot doctor to design footwear and orthotics that can deliver pain relief and minimize the risk of many complications which the feet routinely encounter.
