Physicians at The Foot Institute – Red Deer focus on the medical and surgical treatment of the foot and ankle. Our doctors devote approximately ten years in learning, the first four years in undergrad studies to get a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to acquire a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to standard medical school and many podiatry programs are contained inside these institutions. Upon achieving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or residency for an additional 1 to 3 years.
Upon the completion of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatrists have received substantial medical training with an emphasis on concerns involving the ankles and feet. Foot Institute Doctors are trained to address concerns varying from typical afflictions like ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are much more obscure like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have comprehensive surgical training which provide them the expertise required to carry out surgical treatment on those conditions that are ideally treated through surgical intervention.
Our Doctors furthermore have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs experience as we walk, run or perform other activities. Realizing biomechanics and gait peculiarities makes it possible for a Foot doctor to design shoes and orthotics which can give pain relief and prevent a large number of problems which the feet generally encounter.
