Doctors at The Foot Institute – Red Deer concentrate on the medical and surgical treatment of the foot and ankle. Our doctors spend approximately 10 years in education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to attain a Bachelors Degree, and the next four years in Medical School to acquire a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to traditional medical school and several podiatry programs are located inside these institutions. Upon securing a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for another one to three years.
At the finalization of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have received considerable healthcare training with an emphasis on issues involving the feet and ankles. Foot Institute Doctors are skilled to treat issues varying from general conditions for instance ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are more obscure like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have significant surgical training which give them the experience essential to execute surgical treatment on those conditions that are best handled through surgical treatment.
Foot Institute Doctors furthermore have a comprehensive expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs go through as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait abnormalities allows a Podiatric physician to create shoes and orthotics which can deliver pain relief and reduce the chances of many problems which the feet typically experience.
