Doctors here at The Foot Institute – Red Deer specialize in the surgical and medical treatment of the ankle and foot. Our podiatrists spend approximately 10 years in higher education, the first four years in undergrad studies to attain a Bachelors Degree, and the following four years in Medical School to receive a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles regular medical school and numerous podiatry programs are located within these academic institutions. After securing a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another one to three years.

At the conclusion of the internship or residency, our Podiatric physicians have acquired encompassing medical instruction with an emphasis on problems involving the feet and ankles. They are studied to treat complications stretching from common problems such as fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are even more perplexing for example clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have substantial surgical education which supply them the prior experience crucial to conduct surgical treatment on those conditions that are best treated through surgical intervention.

Our Doctors furthermore have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet go through as we walk, run or perform other activities. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait deviations allows a Podiatrist to develop shoes and orthotics which can give pain relief and protect against countless issues which the feet frequently encounter.
