Doctors at The Foot Institute – Red Deer focus on the medical and surgical treatment of the foot and ankle. They spend about a decade in learning, the first four years in undergraduate studies to acquire a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to have a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles traditional medical school and actually several podiatry training programs are located within these academic institutions. After securing a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for another one to three years.
At the finalization of the internship or residency, our Doctors have received comprehensive healthcare training with a concentration on difficulties involving the feet and ankles. They are skilled to treat difficulties varying from conventional problems for instance ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are even more challenging including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have comprehensive surgical training which provide them the skill essential to perform surgery on those problems that are best managed through surgical intervention.
Doctors at the Foot Institute furthermore have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs withstand as we walk, run or perform other activities. Understanding biomechanics and gait abnormalities makes it possible for a Podiatric physician to design shoes and orthotics that can provide pain relief and protect against countless issues which the feet frequently encounter.
