Dr.’s at The Foot Institute – Red Deer specialize in the surgical and medical treatment of the foot and ankle. Our podiatrists spend an average of 10 years in higher education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd four years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to typical medical school and as a matter of fact a number of podiatry programs are contained within these institutions. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute carry out a hospital "internship" or residency for yet another one to three years.
Upon the fulfillment of the internship or residency, our Podiatric doctors have received extensive medical training with a concentration on conditions pertaining to the ankles and feet. Foot Institute Doctors are studied to manage concerns ranging from commonplace disorders for instance fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are far more puzzling such as clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have comprehensive surgical training which provide them the practical experience necessary to perform surgical treatment on those problems that are best remedied through surgical intervention.
Doctors at the Foot Institute furthermore have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs go through as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Learning about biomechanics and gait deviations makes it possible for a Podiatrist to create shoes and orthotics which can give pain relief and help prevent a large number of conditions which the feet regularly experience.
