Dr.’s at The Foot Institute – Red Deer focus on the medical and surgical treatment of the ankle and foot. Our doctors devote around 10 years in higher education, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to secure a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd 4 years in Medical School to secure a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to typical medical school and in fact various podiatry training programs are located within these academic institutions. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or residency for another one to three years.
At the conclusion of the internship or residency, our Foot doctors have received substantial health care instruction with a focus on issues regarding the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are qualified to manage conditions varying from regular disorders for example, ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are even more perplexing for instance, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have considerable surgical training which provide them the experience needed to perform surgery on those troubles that are best managed through surgical intervention.
Doctors at the Foot Institute furthermore have a comprehensive expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet undergo as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Learning about biomechanics and gait irregularities permits a Podiatrist to design shoes and orthotics which can bestow pain relief and defend against a large number of troubles which the feet usually experience.
