Physicians here at The Foot Institute – Red Deer provide services for the medical and surgical therapy of the ankle and foot. They spend an average of 10 years in learning, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to receive a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd four years in Medical School to have a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to traditional medical school and in fact numerous podiatry programmes are located inside these schools. Upon receiving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute finish a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for an additional one to three years.

At the completion of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatric physicians have obtained wide-ranging medical training with a stress on conditions pertaining to the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are studied to deal with complications ranging from commonplace afflictions for example, ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are far more challenging for example clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have significant surgical training which give them the experience necessary to execute surgery on those troubles that are best managed through surgical intervention.

Our Doctors furthermore have a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet go through as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Recognizing biomechanics and gait deviations empowers a Foot doctor to develop shoes and orthotics which can give pain relief and prevent many problems which the feet frequently encounter.
