Physicians at The Foot Institute – Red Deer focus on the surgical and medical therapy of the foot and ankle. They spend an average of 10 years in education, the first four years in undergrad studies to achieve a Bachelors Degree, and the following 4 years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to regular medical school and in reality several podiatry programmes are contained within these institutions. After getting a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for an additional 1 - 3 years.
At the fulfillment of the internship or post degree residency, our Doctors have received extensive medical education with a main focus on conditions pertaining to the ankles and feet. Foot Institute Doctors are instructed to deal with problems stretching from usual ailments for instance ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are more challenging for example clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have significant surgical training which furnish them the experience required to execute surgery on those problems that are best treated through surgical intervention.
Doctors at the Foot Institute also have an extensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet withstand as we walk, run or perform other activities. Knowing biomechanics and gait peculiarities facilitates a Podiatric doctor to design footwear and orthotics which can deliver pain relief and prevent countless problems which the feet usually experience.
