Dr.’s at The Foot Institute – Red Deer specialize in the surgical and medical therapy of the foot and ankle. Our podiatrists spend an average of 10 years in higher education, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to attain a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd four years in Medical School to acquire a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to standard medical school and in fact several podiatry programmes lie inside these academic institutions. After receiving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute finish a hospital "internship" or residency for yet another one to three years.
At the conclusion of the internship or residency, our Foot doctors have acquired substantial medical education with a focus on issues pertaining to the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are taught to treat issues ranging from normal disorders for instance, ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are much more intricate for example clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have significant surgical education which provide them the prior experience necessary to perform surgery on those complications that are ideally treated through surgical intervention.
Doctors at the Foot Institute also have a comprehensive expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet undergo as we walk, run or perform other activities. Understanding biomechanics and gait problems empowers a Podiatric doctor to design footwear and orthotics which can give pain relief and avoid countless problems which the feet regularly experience.
