Dr.’s at The Foot Institute – Red Deer provide services for the surgical and medical therapy of the foot and ankle. They put in an average of 10 years in higher education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to receive a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to have a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to regular medical school and in reality various podiatry programs are contained within these academic institutions. After acquiring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for another one to three years.
At the fulfillment of the internship or post degree residency, our Doctors have received substantial healthcare instruction with an emphasis on complications pertaining to the feet and ankles. Our Doctors are skilled to care for issues ranging from conventional afflictions such as ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are far more challenging for example, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have significant surgical training which provide them the experience vital to perform surgery on those conditions that are best remedied through surgical treatment.
Our Doctors also have a comprehensive practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet withstand as we walk, run or carry out other tasks. Understanding biomechanics and gait peculiarities makes it easy for a Podiatrist to create shoes and orthotics that can provide pain relief and reduce the chances of many troubles which the feet generally encounter.
