Doctors at The Foot Institute – Red Deer focus on the medical and surgical therapy of the ankle and foot. They invest approximately 10 years in higher education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to attain a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to attain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles conventional medical school and as a matter of fact various podiatry programs lie within these academic institutions. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute perform a hospital "internship" or residency for an additional one to three years.

At the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatric physicians have received extensive health care training with a stress on conditions involving the ankles and feet. Foot Institute Doctors are qualified to treat issues extending from simple ailments for example, ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are more perplexing including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have substantial surgical instruction which provide them the skill necessary to conduct surgical treatment on those problems that are best treated through surgical intervention.

Our Doctors additionally have an extensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs experience as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait deviations makes it easy for a Podiatric physician to create shoes and orthotics which can offer pain relief and minimize the risk of a large number of troubles which the feet commonly encounter.
