Our podiatrists devote approximately a decade in higher education, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to achieve a Bachelors Degree, and the following four years in Medical School to receive a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles traditional medical school and in fact a number of podiatry training programs are located within these schools. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for yet another 1 to 3 years.
Upon the conclusion of the internship or residency, our Podiatric physicians have received substantial health care training with a stress on complications regarding the feet and ankles. Foot Institute Doctors are instructed to handle complications varying from basic ailments like fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are far more challenging for example, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have significant surgical training which supply them the skill essential to perform surgery on those problems that are best treated through surgical intervention.
Our Doctors also have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet go through as we walk, run or perform other activities. Knowing biomechanics and gait irregularities makes it possible for a Podiatric doctor to design shoes and orthotics which can provide pain relief and protect against many conditions which the feet routinely encounter.
