Podiatrists at The Foot Institute – Red Deer concentrate on the medical and surgical treatment of the foot and ankle. Our doctors devote approximately a decade in learning, the first four years in undergrad studies to attain a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to secure a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles traditional medical school and in reality various podiatry programs are contained inside these institutions. Upon attaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute carry out a hospital "internship" or residency for yet another 1 - 3 years.

At the finalization of the internship or residency, our Foot doctors have received comprehensive healthcare training with an attention to on problems regarding the feet and ankles. They are instructed to handle problems ranging from general disorders for instance, fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are far more challenging including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have comprehensive surgical instruction which provide them the skill essential to carry out surgery on those issues that are ideally handled through surgical intervention.

Foot Institute Doctors also have a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet experience as we walk, run or perform other activities. Understanding biomechanics and gait deviations allows a Podiatric doctor to design shoes and orthotics that can give pain relief and prevent many complications which the feet frequently encounter.
