Red Deer Podiatrist & Foot Clinic

Health professionals here at The Foot Institute – Red Deer specialize in the surgical and medical therapy of the foot and ankle. They put in around 10 years in learning, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd 4 years in Medical School to receive a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to conventional medical school and in fact several podiatry programmes lie within these academic institutions. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for yet another 1 - 3 years.

At the conclusion of the internship or residency, our Podiatric physicians have obtained encompassing healthcare training with a focus on complications regarding the feet and ankles. They are trained to handle problems varying from normal afflictions such as fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are more challenging for example, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have significant surgical training which give them the practical experience necessary to perform surgery on those issues that are ideally treated through surgical intervention.

Foot Institute Doctors additionally have a thorough practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet undergo as we walk, run or perform other activities. Knowing biomechanics and gait deviations makes it possible for a Podiatrist to develop shoes and orthotics which can bestow pain relief and defend against many problems which the feet frequently encounter.
