Medical doctors here at The Foot Institute – Red Deer provide services for the medical and surgical treatment of the foot and ankle. They invest an average of a decade in education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to receive a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd four years in Medical School to acquire a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to general medical school and in fact numerous podiatry programmes are located within these academic institutions. After achieving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute carry out a hospital "internship" or residency for another one to three years.

At the conclusion of the internship or residency, our Podiatric doctors have received extensive medical education with an emphasis on complications pertaining to the feet and ankles. Our Doctors are studied to treat difficulties stretching from simple ailments for instance, ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are much more perplexing including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have extensive surgical training which furnish them the practical experience needed to perform surgical treatment on those problems that are best remedied through surgical intervention.

Doctors at the Foot Institute likewise have a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet receive as we walk, run or perform other activities. Learning about biomechanics and gait irregularities allows a Podiatric doctor to design shoes and orthotics that can offer pain relief and minimize the risk of numerous issues which the feet normally experience.
