Specialists here at The Foot Institute – Red Deer concentrate on the surgical and medical therapy of the ankle and foot. Foot Institute Doctors invest an average of ten years in education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to receive a Bachelors Degree, and the following four years in Medical School to acquire a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to typical medical school and actually several podiatry programs are contained within these schools. After acquiring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute finish a hospital "internship" or residency for an additional 1 to 3 years.

Upon the fulfillment of the internship or residency, our Doctors have acquired extensive medical instruction with a stress on difficulties involving the ankles and feet. Foot Institute Doctors are taught to handle concerns ranging from common disorders for instance ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are more complicated for example, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have extensive surgical education which provide them the skill necessary to carry out surgical treatment on those complications that are best treated through surgical intervention.

Our Doctors also have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs submit to as we walk, run or perform other activities. Recognizing biomechanics and gait deviations empowers a Podiatric physician to create footwear and orthotics which can bestow pain relief and help prevent many complications which the feet normally encounter.
