Medical doctors at The Foot Institute – Red Deer provide services for the medical and surgical treatment of the foot and ankle. Our doctors spend approximately ten years in learning, the first four years in undergraduate studies to receive a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd four years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles conventional medical school and in fact several podiatry programmes are located within these institutions. After receiving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute perform a hospital "internship" or residency for yet another 1 to 3 years.
At the fulfillment of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatric physicians have gained extensive healthcare education with an emphasis on difficulties pertaining to the feet and ankles. They are trained to manage problems ranging from usual disorders for instance, fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are more obscure including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have thorough surgical education which furnish them the prior experience required to perform surgical treatment on those concerns that are ideally managed through surgical treatment.
Foot Institute Doctors additionally have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet receive as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Knowing biomechanics and gait problems allows a Podiatric physician to design shoes and orthotics which can offer pain relief and minimize the risk of many problems which the feet commonly encounter.
