Medical doctors at The Foot Institute – Red Deer focus on the surgical and medical treatment of the foot and ankle. Foot Institute Podiatrists put in approximately ten years in learning, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to secure a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to conventional medical school and actually several podiatry training programs are located within these institutions. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 - 3 years.

Upon the conclusion of the internship or residency, our Doctors have obtained extensive medical instruction with a concentration on issues pertaining to the ankles and feet. Foot Institute Doctors are taught to treat concerns ranging from commonplace ailments for example, fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are a lot more obscure such as clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have substantial surgical education which furnish them the prior experience essential to perform surgery on those concerns that are best treated through surgical treatment.

Foot Institute Doctors furthermore have an extensive practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet submit to as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait abnormalities empowers a Podiatric doctor to design footwear and orthotics that can bestow pain relief and help prevent many problems which the feet usually experience.
