Red Deer Podiatrist & Foot Clinic

Podiatrists at The Foot Institute – Red Deer specialize in the medical and surgical therapy of the ankle and foot. Foot Institute Podiatrists put in about ten years in higher education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to achieve a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd four years in Medical School to attain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to typical medical school and a number of podiatry programs are contained within these schools. Upon achieving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for yet another one to three years.

At the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have gained wide-ranging health care training with a main focus on difficulties involving the feet and ankles. Our Doctors are instructed to manage issues ranging from common conditions such as ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are more complicated for instance, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have extensive surgical instruction which provide them the practical experience required to carry out surgical treatment on those problems that are best managed through surgical treatment.

Doctors at the Foot Institute also have an extensive expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet endure as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait peculiarities makes it possible for a Podiatrist to design footwear and orthotics which can provide pain relief and protect against many complications which the feet generally encounter.
