Podiatrists at The Foot Institute – Red Deer provide services for the medical and surgical treatment of the foot and ankle. Our podiatrists invest approximately 10 years in higher education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the following four years in Medical School to have a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to standard medical school and various podiatry programmes lie within these academic institutions. After procuring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute finish a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 to 3 years.
Upon the conclusion of the internship or residency, our Podiatric physicians have gained encompassing health care education with a focus on problems regarding the feet and ankles. Our Doctors are taught to manage problems ranging from regular afflictions for instance, ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are more obscure for example clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have thorough surgical training which provide them the skill essential to execute surgery on those concerns that are ideally handled through surgical intervention.
Doctors at the Foot Institute furthermore have a comprehensive expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet experience as we walk, run or perform other activities. Knowing biomechanics and gait irregularities enables a Podiatrist to design shoes and orthotics which can offer pain relief and protect against many troubles which the feet commonly experience.
