Our podiatrists invest an average of 10 years in higher education, the first four years in undergrad studies to receive a Bachelors Degree, and the next four years in Medical School to receive a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to standard medical school and in fact several podiatry programs are located inside these institutions. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for yet another 1 to 3 years.
At the conclusion of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have received wide-ranging healthcare training with an emphasis on issues concerning the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are skilled to deal with problems stretching from simple conditions such as fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are far more sophisticated like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have substantial surgical training which give them the expertise essential to conduct surgery on those issues that are ideally handled through surgical intervention.
Doctors at the Foot Institute additionally have a thorough practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet submit to as we walk, run or perform other activities. Understanding biomechanics and gait problems allows a Podiatric doctor to create shoes and orthotics which can give pain relief and reduce the chances of many troubles which the feet generally experience.
