Red Deer Podiatrist & Foot Clinic

Doctors here at The Foot Institute – Red Deer specialise in the medical and surgical treatment of the ankle and foot. They devote around 10 years in higher education, the first four years in undergrad studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the next 4 years in Medical School to attain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to general medical school and in fact a number of podiatry programmes are located within these academic institutions. After securing a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute perform a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another one to three years.

At the fulfillment of the internship or residency, our Podiatric doctors have received comprehensive health care training with an emphasis on issues involving the feet and ankles. Our Doctors are qualified to treat problems varying from standard problems such as ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are far more puzzling like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have comprehensive surgical instruction which give them the prior experience essential to perform surgery on those concerns that are best treated through surgical intervention.

Foot Institute Doctors furthermore have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs undergo as we walk, run or perform other activities. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait deviations makes it easy for a Podiatric doctor to develop shoes and orthotics that can deliver pain relief and prevent many troubles which the feet normally encounter.
