Doctors here at The Foot Institute – Red Deer provide services for the medical and surgical treatment of the ankle and foot. Our doctors invest around 10 years in higher education, the first four years in undergrad studies to achieve a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to get a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to general medical school and in fact a number of podiatry programs are located inside these institutions. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 to 3 years.
At the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have gained wide-ranging healthcare training with a concentration on concerns pertaining to the feet and ankles. Foot Institute Doctors are studied to treat problems varying from general disorders like ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are a lot more sophisticated for instance, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have comprehensive surgical education which furnish them the practical experience essential to conduct surgery on those concerns that are ideally remedied through surgical intervention.
Foot Institute Doctors also have a comprehensive expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs experience as we walk, run or carry out other tasks. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait abnormalities makes it possible for a Podiatric doctor to create shoes and orthotics that can bestow pain relief and avoid many problems which the feet typically experience.
