Dr.’s here at The Foot Institute – Red Deer specialize in the surgical and medical treatment of the ankle and foot. They spend around ten years in higher education, the first four years in undergrad studies to secure a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd 4 years in Medical School to secure a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to conventional medical school and as a matter of fact several podiatry programmes are located inside these institutions. Upon procuring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute carry out a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 to 3 years.
At the conclusion of the internship or residency, our Doctors have acquired comprehensive medical instruction with a main focus on problems involving the feet and ankles. Our Doctors are taught to address problems ranging from standard ailments for example, fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are more complex for example, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have significant surgical training which give them the prior experience necessary to perform surgical treatment on those troubles that are best treated through surgical intervention.
Our Doctors also have a comprehensive expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet undergo as we walk, run or perform other activities. Understanding biomechanics and gait irregularities enables a Podiatric doctor to create shoes and orthotics which can deliver pain relief and defend against many issues which the feet usually encounter.
