Red Deer Podiatrist & Foot Clinic

Medical doctors at The Foot Institute – Red Deer focus on the surgical and medical treatment of the foot and ankle. Foot Institute Podiatrists devote about 10 years in education, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to receive a Bachelors Degree, and the next 4 years in Medical School to have a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles conventional medical school and in fact quite a number podiatry programmes are located inside these institutions. After receiving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute finish a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 - 3 years.

At the completion of the internship or post degree residency, our Doctors have received extensive medical training with a concentration on problems pertaining to the ankles and feet. They are studied to treat complications stretching from general afflictions such as ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are far more complicated for example clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have significant surgical education which give them the skill crucial to carry out surgery on those concerns that are best treated through surgical intervention.

Foot Institute Doctors furthermore have a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs undergo as we walk, run or perform other activities. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait peculiarities permits a Podiatric physician to design shoes and orthotics which can give pain relief and protect against many conditions which the feet usually encounter.
