Red Deer Podiatrist & Foot Clinic

Podiatrists at The Foot Institute – Red Deer focus on the medical and surgical therapy of the foot and ankle. Our podiatrists invest about 10 years in higher education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to acquire a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to have a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to conventional medical school and in fact a number of podiatry programmes are located inside these institutions. Upon receiving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute perform a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 to 3 years.

At the completion of the internship or post degree residency, our Doctors have gained comprehensive healthcare education with a stress on conditions concerning the ankles and feet. They are trained to treat complications ranging from typical problems like ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are a lot more challenging like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have thorough surgical education which give them the skill essential to perform surgical treatment on those problems that are best remedied through surgical treatment.

Our Doctors likewise have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs receive as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Knowing biomechanics and gait irregularities allows a Podiatrist to design shoes and orthotics that can provide pain relief and prevent countless issues which the feet usually encounter.
