Doctors at The Foot Institute – Red Deer specialize in the medical and surgical treatment of the ankle and foot. They invest approximately 10 years in education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to secure a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to secure a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to conventional medical school and in point of fact several podiatry programmes are located inside these institutions. After receiving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or residency for another one to three years.

At the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have received extensive health care training with a concentration on conditions concerning the ankles and feet. They are educated to care for concerns varying from familiar disorders like fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are far more perplexing for instance, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have substantial surgical education which give them the experience essential to carry out surgery on those concerns that are ideally handled through surgical treatment.

Our Doctors also have a comprehensive expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs experience as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait deviations empowers a Foot doctor to design footwear and orthotics which can give pain relief and avoid countless complications which the feet routinely experience.
