Physicians at The Foot Institute – Red Deer concentrate on the medical and surgical therapy of the foot and ankle. They spend about ten years in learning, the first four years in undergraduate studies to acquire a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to secure a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to conventional medical school and in fact numerous podiatry training programs are contained within these institutions. After acquiring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute finish a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another 1 to 3 years.

At the fulfillment of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatric physicians have obtained comprehensive medical training with a focus on difficulties pertaining to the feet and ankles. They are taught to manage conditions ranging from regular disorders like fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are far more complex such as clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have thorough surgical education which supply them the skill necessary to conduct surgery on those issues that are best treated through surgical intervention.

Doctors at the Foot Institute additionally have an extensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs withstand as we walk, run or perform other activities. Knowing biomechanics and gait problems enables a Podiatrist to design footwear and orthotics which can give pain relief and avoid a large number of troubles which the feet regularly experience.
