Red Deer Podiatrist & Foot Clinic

Health professionals at The Foot Institute – Red Deer specialise in the medical and surgical treatment of the foot and ankle. Foot Institute Podiatrists devote about ten years in higher education, the first four years in undergrad studies to receive a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd four years in Medical School to receive a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to conventional medical school and several podiatry programs are contained inside these academic institutions. After receiving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 to 3 years.

At the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatric doctors have obtained extensive medical training with a stress on problems pertaining to the ankles and feet. They are taught to treat issues extending from familiar afflictions like ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are far more perplexing such as clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have substantial surgical education which give them the experience essential to perform surgery on those conditions that are best remedied through surgical intervention.

Doctors at the Foot Institute likewise have a comprehensive expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs undergo as we walk, run or carry out other tasks. Knowing biomechanics and gait problems facilitates a Podiatrist to design footwear and orthotics which can offer pain relief and help prevent many issues which the feet typically encounter.
