Doctors here at The Foot Institute – Red Deer specialise in the surgical and medical treatment of the foot and ankle. Our doctors spend an average of a decade in learning, the first four years in undergraduate studies to secure a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to general medical school and in point of fact several podiatry programs are contained within these schools. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute carry out a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for an additional 1 - 3 years.
At the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have obtained considerable medical education with an emphasis on difficulties regarding the ankles and feet. They are trained to treat problems extending from simple disorders for instance, ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are even more intricate such as clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have significant surgical instruction which provide them the experience crucial to execute surgery on those troubles that are best remedied through surgical intervention.
Our Doctors also have a comprehensive practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs withstand as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Realizing biomechanics and gait problems empowers a Podiatrist to design shoes and orthotics which can give pain relief and help prevent numerous issues which the feet regularly experience.
